QB. North Dakota State. Carson Wentz. 2. player. 54.
Â

In the interest of full disclosure, I was going write that the Cleveland Browns should trade down from the number two overall pick. Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past few days, you would know that they did just that.

Cleveland acquired a great haul from the Philadelphia Eagles in order to slide down six spots in the first round and, well, the Browns generally “won” this deal while operating in very surprising fashion given their organizational history. As for this pick, though, the Eagles pick up a quarterback that was clearly the target of their huge trade swing.

At this point, it is not a mortal lock that Wentz will be available, but that is the consensus and it is a good thing for Philly. In my mind, Wentz is the top quarterback available, but he also isn’t ready to contribute at the NFL level in 2016. With that, the Eagles have two quarterbacks, Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel, that can carry the load for now, and that allows the organization to take a cautious approach with uber-talented Wentz.

The logistics of the trade itself can be debated when it comes to who “won” the deal, but Philadelphia wants a quarterback bad enough that they did what was needed to pave the way. Say hello to Carson Wentz as the number two pick.
