Every team in the NFL enters the draft each year with high hopes. Depending on which players are available for a particular franchise, the draft can be an organization-changing event, and there have been numerous occasions where one year’s haul has stocked the cupboard for a team over the course of a decade.

We have also seen what a bad draft can do to an organization’s direction.

In this space, we will examine the worst draft pick ever of each of the league’s 32 franchises. In the same way that we did with our look at each team’s best pick, this will be a pure value proposition. Teams are penalized at a greater rate for swinging and missing on very high draft picks. The theory, obviously, is that higher picks should have a higher success rate. But as we know, that is not always the case.

There are a few legendary cases of organizational incompetence, but for most squads, only the diehards in the fan base can recite the biggest blunders without prompting. It is hard to over-emphasize just how brutal it is on the psyche when a team misses on a pick right before a Hall of Fame player comes off the board, and we’ll see that a few times over the course of our breakdown.

Now, let’s get it going with the Arizona Cardinals.
