Steve Kerr took home the Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden State Warriors to the best regular season record of all-time.
Even though he missed the first half of the season, Steve Kerr will still take home Coach of the Year honors for the Golden State Warriors. Marc Stein of ESPN was the first to report it.
ESPN sources say that Golden State's Steve Kerr has won the NBA Coach of the Year award for the 2015-16 season.

Given that the honor is based on regular season success, it’s hard to pick against Kerr. He guided the team to a 73-9 record, the best record in NBA history, while ensuring there would be no championship hangover from last season. He even had a great sense of humor over his team’s propensity this year of blowing everyone out:

The team didn’t miss him during the first 43 games of the season, when they got off to a 24-0 start, but Luke Walton was never credited for those wins, and the team was still very much playing under Kerr’s system. If anything, he was practically coaching the team from home during the first half.
As per Basketball Reference, Steve Kerr is the first Warriors coach to take home the honor since Don Nelson won it in 1992. They have been a team that hasn’t experienced success for a long time, but now their fans are spoiled with it.
People may be skeptical and say that any coach could have won with the Warriors’ roster, but it’s not always easy to coach a team of superstars – someone has to keep their egos in check. Kerr did that perfectly and when history was on the line, the team looked so composed that they didn’t let the pressure of the moment get to them. Additionally, ever since he started coaching Golden State, he has implemented a small ball system that everyone has been trying to copy. While the Warriors have a historically great roster, Steve Kerr’s contributions should not be overlooked.
