Dolphins players reportedly upset at Ndamukong Suh for skipping workout

Members of the Miami Dolphins are reportedly upset that defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is one of four no-shows to optional workouts this week.

This week at their training camp facility in the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale, the Miami Dolphins are holding their first voluntary workouts under first-year head coach Adam Gase. While most of the team did make it to camp, four players were no-shows and it’s drawing attention.

The main name that is missing is the team’s big money defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh. After signing a six-year, $114 million contract with the team last offseason, Suh had just 38 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season for the 6-10 Dolphins.

While none have come out on camera or in the papers to say it publicly, the Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley is reporting that players are upset in private about Suh missing out on working with his teammates after last season’s numbers:

"Suh, meanwhile, has made a habit of skipping voluntary workouts because he prefers to work out at the Nike compound in Oregon. He showed up for the first day of the Dolphins’ conditioning program a few weeks back, but quickly went back to his old routine.Teammates are privately steamed about the league’s highest-paid defensive player again doing what he wants — a recurring problem during much of the 2015 season."

Suh is joined in missing this week’s camp by defensive end Mario Williams and linebacker Koa Misi (who are both absent for personal reasons and notified the team they wouldn’t make it) and safety Reshad Jones, who is vowing to skip all drills until he gets a restructured contract following his Pro Bowl season in 2015.

Jones is scheduled to make over $7 million each of the final two years of his current deal, but according to Beasley, Jones wants in the neighborhood of $10-11 million a season likes safeties Earl Thomas and Eric Berry.
