There are very few high draft picks who have seen their stock rise and fall as quick as Jason Smith. After an impressive career at Baylor, Jason Smith would blow everyone away with his athleticism at the combine and would become the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.

After concussion issues derailed his rookie season, Smith lost his starting spot to a rookie the following season and that would be that for him as a tackle in the NFL. The Rams would trade him to the New York Jets in 2012, but he didn’t do anything of note there and would be cut a couple of more times before his career came to an end.

Like Bradford, Smith was another player that got paid a lot of money before he took a snap in the NFL. With $33 million in guarantees, Smith received a lot of money to play one terrible year of football in the NFL.

He serves as a reminder that scouting is an inexact science and drafting offensive lineman is one of the hardest things to do in the NFL. In terms of NFL history, Smith might just be one of the biggest misses ever.
