MLB Trade Deadline: One trade each team should make
By Jason Evans
Colorado Rockies– Jake McGee to the Cubs for Dan Vogelbach and Neil Ramirez
As discussed earlier, the Cubs have a ton of position prospects. Prospects they don’t really have room for like Dan Vogelbach, a young first baseman who is blocked by Anthony Rizzo. The Rockies currently have Mark Reynolds starting at first base. He’s more of a stop gap option for the club. Enter this trade. The Rockies get Vogelbach, who could be their first baseman of the future along with Neil Ramirez, who can step right into the bullpen and possibly setup if they were to elevate Miguel Castro to closer. Ramirez gives the Rockies another cost controlled arm in the bullpen and someone who can be a part of it moving forward.
For the Cubs, they get a power, left-handed arm for their bullpen to setup in front of Hector Rondon.
The Cubs have Travis Wood and Clayton Richard from the left side in their bullpen, so adding someone like McGee would be an instant upgrade to the back end of the bullpen. They could even use McGee to close certain days if Rondon was heavily used or matchup wise. Plus, McGee pitched for Joe Maddon in Tampa, which is another reason this trade could happen.
