Detroit Tigers- Joe Jimenez to the Atlanta Braves for Jason Grilli

The Detroit Tigers look like they are going to be a team that’s going to be in contention all season long and may even return to the postseason. In the off-season, the Tigers attempted to fix a leaky bullpen, they added Mark Lowe via free agency along with Justin Wilson and Francisco Rodriguez in trades. There would be no harm in adding another arm to help the bullpen, with Michael Fulmer possibly coming up to help the rotation.

Grilli can come in and help set up, or even close on certain days for the Tigers when they need him. He gives them another arm at the end of games. Bullpen arms don’t come cheap, especially ones that aren’t very expensive. (Grilli will make $3 million this year).

For the Braves, this continues with their theme of stockpiling arms. Jimenez is a young, power arm out of the bullpen. He struck out 61 batters in just 43 innings last season while saving 17 out of 20 games. He can give them a closer for the future, or even a setup man down the line. He can be a part of the bullpen for the next time the Braves are in contention.
