NFL Rumors: 49ers could still trade Colin Kaepernick this week
By Jason Parker
Colin Kaepernick could still be traded from the San Francisco 49ers before the end of the week, according to the team’s general manager.
It’s been one of the storylines throughout the NFL since the free agency period begun in early March. While he isn’t a free agent, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been the subject of trade talks with the team sending him to locations across the league.
So far, nothing has taken place and Kaepernick is still a member of the 49ers. That, however, could not be for much longer as the team’s general manager told one ESPN reporter that a move could be made within the next couple days:
Kaepernick was a second-round pick of the 49ers in 2011 and became the team’s starting quarterback midway through the 2012 season, helping to lead the team to their first Super Bowl berth in nearly two decades. He threw for over 6,500 yards the next two seasons with 40 touchdowns, but was replaced midway through the 2015 season and missed the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
Initially, the 49ers were looking to trade Kaepernick to the Denver Broncos, but the quarterback has refused to take a pay cut from the Broncos. Other possible options could be the New York Jets (who are currently in limbo with their quarterback from last season, Ryan Fitzpatrick) and the Buffalo Bills (who have yet to sign quarterback Tyrod Taylor to a long term deal).
