NFL Scout: Eli Apple redflagged because he can’t cook

Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Eli Apple apparently is a questionable NFL Draft prospect because of his lack of skills in the kitchen.

The eve of the NFL Draft can be a dangerous time. You have to be careful about what you see and hear because you never can be too sure if teams are just sending out misinformation to throw off the scent of what they’re doing when they’re on the clock.

Further, there is plenty of talk of players suddenly rising and falling. That’s wildly exaggerated because teams have had months to dissect these players and most have their minds made up that the draft could have started a few weeks ago and teams would have all the information they need.

That leads us to today’s wildest story about one anonymous scout telling Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Eli Apple scares him in part because of what he can’t do in the kitchen.

“They were surprised he ran that well. I worry about him because of off-the-field issues. The kid has no life skills. At all. Can’t cook. Just a baby. He’s not first round for me. He scares me to death.”

Now, I’m not sure how cooking a steak to a perfect medium-rare means for a cornerbacks ability to cover wide receivers, read a quarterback’s eyes or if he’s better in zone or man-to-man. But I do know that is one of the most ludicrous statements you could ever make to critique a football player.

I’m a tremendous cook, so does that mean I am a better cornerback prospect than Apple. I would gladly welcome the check a first rounder gets. But I can’t run and flip my hips and cover like Apple can.

I have to believe the NFL is full of Pro Bowl talents who can’t cook a can of soup or properly use a toaster so this critique of Apple is just silly, and it would appear isn’t even accurate.

"Btw, Eli's dad is a retired five star chef. We eat well. So stop playing with our name. Next time you say our name, put some respeck on it"
"Eli has made me some fire fried chicken and mac and cheese. The source seems to be pretty unreliable"
"We should have a cooking contest at the combine now"
