1. Win the United States Championship again

At WrestleMania 31, John Cena won the WWE United States Championship from Rusev. He would then defeat the Bulgarian Brute two more times to retain the belt and secure his first reign with a mid-card strap in about a decade.

Putting the U.S. title on Cena gave this old belt much-needed prestige, even without doing much with it. Obviously, Mr. HLR is a big name and one of the largest in WWE history, so his presence helps anything.

Well, Cena took it one step further by creating the US Open Challenge that aired almost weekly throughout both of his reigns with the belt in 2015. WWE gave him and an unknown challenger to the audience about 15-20 minutes to put on a match in the middle of the show. It’s safe to say this was the best part of Raw nearly every time.

When Cena left to do filming for his reality show at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in October 2015, it was thought that he would drop U.S. title to a big name. It turned out to be the returning Alberto Del Rio. He won and went on to have a pretty boring reign.

Now Kalisto holds the title. His hold of the strap has been just about non-existent since Royal Rumble, making the title seem irrelevant once again. At least Del Rio got some TV time.

So WWE has pretty much deemed the U.S. title a non-factor for programming. They are putting it on the Payback pre-show again, which only furthers this.

So, how about using Cena to win the belt back on the day he returns?

If Ryback defeats Kalisto at Payback, this scenario happening may be likely. Cena could come out to a pop to cut a promo in the ring and be interrupted by the Big Guy. They would trade words until Cena gives him one of his usual blurbs about “putting your money where your mouth is” like he’s done before. This would goad Ryback into defending the title with Cena winning it.

This scenario would be the most basic way of bringing the 15-time World Champion back. It would also be the most likely since WWE doesn’t tend to get creative with their booking.
