SG. Anadolu Efes. Furkan Korkmaz. 19. player. 73. Denver simply doesn’t have the roster spots to be able to take on three rookie contracts this year. A trade might be imminent for them on draft night, as they could attempt to acquire a veteran presence or package their 15th and 19th picks to move up into the back half of the lottery. The other option, one that could make a lot of sense given their propensity for international development, could be to draft Korkmaz, the best European prospect still on the board.
Korkmaz is incredibly raw, as he doesn’t see much playing time with Efes due to their depth. However, he looks the part of an excellent shooter at the next level, as he has hit 46.3 percent of three-point attempts this season. Korkmaz has an excellent understanding of creating space in an offense, and he moves very well without the ball, and has a lightning-quick release to be able to get shots off even against a good close-out. Korkmaz isn’t just a shooter, though, as he’s displayed the ability to score off the bounce and he’s a good passer within an offense, helping to swing the ball and set up optimal looks for himself and others.

Korkmaz does need defensive improvement, where his thin frame and lack of awareness put him in bad positions against stronger guards. He also likely would benefit from some experience as a true focal point of the Efes offense, something he figures to get as he attempts to replace Dario Saric in 2016-2017. That role would likely allow Korkmaz to get more comfortable on the ball, and might make it so that he can be a more well-rounded and versatile offensive option when he does join the NBA ranks. The Nuggets can create the opportunity for Korkmaz to do that, and they would hopefully be rewarded with a very solid shooter down the line.

To learn more about Furkan Korkmaz, <a href=
