With the No. 4 pick in the 2016 draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Ezekiel Elliott.

It’s a good day in Dallas. With the No. 4 pick, the Cowboys drafted the explosive running back Ezekiel Elliott. The former Ohio State running back looks to be a day one starter for Dallas.

With the addition of Elliot to the Cowboys, this could be the move that takes the team from missing the playoffs, to creating a team that can contend for titles. Specifically speaking, the former Buckeye will make opposing defenses play more honest. In other words, even as a rookie, Elliott is such a superior athlete that opponents will have to scheme in order to stop him. If other teams spend time trying to stop Elliott, then that gives Dez Bryant even more chances to make plays.

Despite the stigma that running back are easily replaceable and not worthy of drafting a high, Elliott deserved to be taken as high as he was. The biggest transition that running backs have to make coming into the NFL is being actively involved in pass protection. During his time at Ohio State, Elliott demonstrated that he is already an NFL quality pass protector.

The future burns brightly for Elliott and the Cowboys. Hopefully he can quickly get on the field and start being a difference maker.
