NFL Draft Rumors: Cowboys debating Ezekiel Elliott or Jalen Ramsey at No. 4

The Cowboys are reportedly deciding between just two players, Ezekiel Elliott and Jalen Ramsey, with the No. 4 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft

As always seems to be the case at any point on the NFL calendar, all eyes are on the Dallas Cowboys entering the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday as they sit with the No. 4-overall pick in the draft. The first two picks after trades are almost surely going to be the two top quarterbacks in Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, but what the San Diego Chargers do at No. 3 and the Cowboys do immediately after could set the tone for the rest of the first round. Before the draft has even started, though, it’s becoming clearer as to what the Cowboys might do.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cowboys are looking at all of their options still leading up to the NFL Draft, but they are in essence working on deciding between former Ohio State Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliott and former Florida State Seminoles defensive back Jalen Ramsey:

For the Cowboys, both picks make a ton of sense in regards to helping the team improve and potentially become a contender. Putting a young running back with the talent of Elliott behind the vaunted Dallas offensive line is incredibly enticing for their offensive attack. However, their secondary isn’t their strongest area of the defense and some believe that Ramsey is the best player in the entire 2016 NFL Draft.

Dallas is also in an interesting position at the No. 4 pick as a healthy Cowboys team would never be picking in this range. However, the injury to Tony Romo this past season landed them here and has now allowed them to retool with a top-tier draft prospect.

Regardless of if the Cowboys land on Elliott or Ramsey in the 2016 NFL Draft, both players could make an impact right away in Dallas and would only strengthen their case as favorites in the NFC East next season.
