New York Jets select Darron Lee: Draft Grade

The New York Jets have selected Darron Lee with the 20th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft

After a college career that included All-American honors and a national title for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Darron Lee is now a member of the National Football League. Lee was selected by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft Thursday.

Height: 6’1″

Weight: 232

40-yard dash: 4.47

Notable stat: Moved from safety to linebacker before the 2014 season

A standout high school quarterback and safety in the state of Ohio, Darron Lee came to Columbus as a safety and played two games in 2013 before an injury forced him to use his redshirt year for the remainder of the season.

In 2014, Lee took over the starting spot at his new position of linebacker and flourished. He ended up the season as a freshman All-American by starting all 15 games and coming up with 81 tackles and 7.5 sacks, including two in the Sugar Bowl against Alabama (a game in which he was named defensive MVP).

After helping the Buckeyes to a national title in 2014, Darron Lee was part of a defense that kept them in the running for much of 2015. He would end the season with 66 tackles and four sacks while earning All-Big Ten honors by both the coaches and media.

Lee improved his draft status with a solid performance at the NFL combine, where he led the linebacker group in many of the areas tested and jumped into the first round conversation.

Grade: B
