NFL Draft 2016: Kansas City Chiefs Day 2 selections

Looking at the Kansas City Chiefs selections on Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft

One would have to believe that the original plan for the Kansas City Chiefs as they entered the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday was that they would use their selection at the end of Round 1 to pick up one of the intriguing wide receivers there or maybe go after a quarterback. With three quarterbacks and all of the top-tier receivers off the board by the time the Chiefs were picking, though, they ultimately elected to trade out of the first round with the 49ers in exchange for a second, fourth, and sixth round pick this year.

Subsequently, the Chiefs will get to use one of the selections they acquired from the 49ers on Friday night as Day 2 of the NFL Draft gets underway. Kansas City is admittedly in a strange position in that making that trade out of Round 1 actually gave them more options throughout this draft as a whole as their picks were quite depleted prior to making that deal.

The Chiefs will have just two selections on Friday in Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft, both of those picks falling in the second round. They’ll finally get to make a selection in this draft relatively early with the 49ers pick coming in at No. 37 overall. Kansas City will have to wait a until the end of the second round then to make their final selection of Day 2 as they don’t pick again until the No. 59 pick.
