NFL Rumors: Los Angeles Rams looking to trade Nick Foles or Case Keenum
By Nick Ziegler
Since the Los Angeles Rams drafted Jared Goff with the first pick in the NFL Draft, recent NFL rumors have been flying about them looking to move Nick Foles and Case Keenum.
The Los Angeles Rams believe that they have their franchise quarterback after selecting Jared Goff on Thursday night, and now they appear to be clearing the way for him to be the starter in Week 1.
According to Mike Silver, the Rams are looking to trade either Nick Foles or Case Keenum, as the plan is for Goff to start in Week 1. Shortly after the draft, Jeff Fisher spoke about wanting Goff to be the starter in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers of Monday Night Football.
“He may start on Monday night,” Fisher said of Goff starting in Week 1 to Conor Orr of NFL.com. “That’s the goal. We understand the environment, believe me. He does. We’ve had lengthy conversations. If I had concerns about whether Jared could handle this, I wouldn’t be talking about Jared right now. He can handle it.”
The Rams had to give up a lot to get the first pick in the draft, as it has left them with two fourth-round and two sixth-round picks in the NFL Draft this year. Neither Keenum nor Foles would get the Rams a whole lot in return, but they could certainly add at least one more late-round pick by trading one of them.
Foles has been the more likely of the two to be traded, as he totaled a 4-7 record as a starter, and also had more interceptions than touchdown passes. Keenum played fairly well for the Rams when he got to start late in the season, and would make a very solid backup for Goff.
Having all three on the team next season seems unlikely for the Rams, so expect to see either Foles or Keenum moved soon so the Rams can get some much-needed draft picks in return.
