NFL Rumors: Mark Sanchez to start for Broncos
The Broncos have their quarterback plans set up and Mark Sanchez will be a beneficiary.
The Denver Broncos have had a tumultuous offseason at the quarterback position. Future NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning retired and backup Brock Osweiler somewhat shockingly left for the Houston Texans.
To replace these two, the Broncos traded for Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles. On Thursday, they also drafted Paxton Lynch in the late first round to develop and groom as the next starter.
There was some question if the Broncos would add one more quarterback to the fold, but it seems they won’t. 9news is reporting that Denver won’t sign Brian Hoyer, who was rumored to be signing with them and likely is heading elsewhere as a backup. This is going to lead to Sanchez as the starter while Lynch gets a favorable amount of reps as the backup for the 2016 season.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Lynch came out of Memphis as a quarterback who was expected to need time to develop and this goes along with that. However, getting the proper time behind Sanchez is also necessary so he can get work in practice to eventually take over as the starter. Taking over the every-week signal caller role for the Broncos could come within the next few seasons for Lynch.
