The Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues face off for Game 1 of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs tonight Friday, April 29 at 8:00 PM ET.

The Stars and the Blues look to win the West starting in the second round of the NHL playoffs. For Game 1, Dallas welcomes St. Louis to the American Airlines Center, where the Stars have a history of winning with home ice advantage.

Dallas finished the regular season as the top-seeded team in the Central Division, with 109 points earned. Trailing close behind in second place was St. Louis, finishing with 107 points. The rivals played against each other five times over the course of the 2015-16 regular season, and the Blues came out on top in four; however, two games went into overtime, and one had to be decided on a shootout. What this shows is just how neck-and-neck the two teams have been throughout the season and how close the competition will certainly be throughout this postseason series.

The top two teams put on strong showings in the first round, eliminating the Minnesota Wild and the Chicago Blackhawks in their respective first-round series. As two of the hottest teams in the league, finishing in second place (Dallas) and third place (St. Louis) in the NHL, it’s difficult to predict just how this round will turn out. The physicality in the Blues vs. Blackhawks series certainly foreshadows the type of aggression the St. Louis defense — which was third in the league with 85.1 percent on the penalty kill — will play with against the Stars. Meanwhile, the offensive talent on the Stars’ roster, which was fourth in the league on the power play at 22.1 percent, will certainly be their primary weapon.

The Stars welcome the Friday, April 29 at 8:00 p.m. at Dallas on NBCSN and TVA Sports.
