Antrel Rolle was released by Chicago just one day after draft

Antrel Rolle couldn’t catch a break with the Chicago Bears in the 2015. Rolle’s season ended in November after he sprained his MCL at the Bears’ Halas Hall practice facility in non-contact drills. Earlier in the season, Rolle hurt his ankle in a Week 4 win over the Oakland Raiders and missed two games. He returned to make three straight starts before suffering the knee injury Nov. 20.

On Sunday, just hours after the Bears drafted a pair of safeties, Miami’s Deon Bush (fourth round) and William & Mary’s DeAndre Houston-Carson (sixth round), Rolle was cut by Chicago.

He didn’t go quietly.

“Whatever team I go to, I hope that Chicago’s on the table because I’m coming to bust their ass,” Rolle said on 670 The Score Chicago radio on Monday.

The 33-year-old veteran didn’t stop there, either. Talking to the New York Post later that same day, Rolle continued to dog the Bears, blaming their slippery practice field for his short season. Until Monday, the cause of Rolle’s season ending knee injury remained a mystery.

“The surfaces in the Chicago facilities are the worst I’ve ever been around, I’m just gonna be honest with you,” Rolle said.  “I slipped on the surface, I wasn’t even running, I was just kind of shuffling and slipped.” Later he said that “I always knew Soldier Field was bad, I just never knew that the facilities (at Halas Hall) were just as bad.”

Rolle had a history of health throughout his ten-year stint in the league prior to joining the Bears, playing in all 16 games in 8 of the 10 seasons. Rolle won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2011, and said his first preference would be to return to New York.

The Giants and Bears are scheduled to take the field Nov. 20th, the one-year anniversary of his season ending slip and fall.
