Gary Cahill gives Chelsea and Leicester fans hope by scoring off the corner kick.
This season has been one to forget for Chelsea fans as their Premier League defense has gone completely limp. But the one thing they would hate more than to give up their Premier League crown is to see Tottenham win it. So when they were given the chance to officially crown Leicester City as champion by at least holding the Spurs to a draw, they were more than happy to do so.
Things got off to a poor start for Chelsea, however. For a Tottenham team that has never won at Stamford Bridge, they ran out to a 2-0 lead. However, when both sets of players got into a scuffle close to half-time, Chelsea sensed that emotions might be getting the better of their London rivals and they came into the second half firing out of the gate. Once a corner kick presented itself, Gary Cahill pounced on the opportunity and smashed it home:
Of all the players that are to blame for Chelsea’s capitulation this season, Cahill is one of them as his displays at the back saw Kurt Zouma replace him in the starting lineup altogether. Once Zouma was out for the season, Cahill had a chance to win back the trust of the Chelsea board.
His future at the club is uncertain, but one has to think that if John Terry leaves, Chelsea would be better off keeping him. Especially if he can produce moments of brilliance such as this. The pressure is on Tottenham to maintain their lead and not see their two-goal advantage slip up.
