Despite a tremendous third period comeback, the Dallas Stars  fell to the St. Louis Blues in Game 2, tying their series 1-1.

Yet again, Brian Elliott carried his team to victory, saving 31 shots on goal and letting in only three pucks for a save percentage of .912. The Stars continued to show inconsistency and unreliability between the crossbars: after allowing three goals in the first five shots of the game, starting goalie Kari Lehtonen was removed from the crease and replaced with Antti Niemi. Niemi made 19 saves, only allowing the Blues’ game-winning goal in overtime. He finished with a .950 save percentage, compared to Lehtonen’s .400. Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff has yet to announce his starting goalie for Game 3.

The Stars now head to St. Louis for the next two games of the tied series, which is tied 1-1. Though we’ve only seen two games, it is safe to say that the series has played out exactly as it was expected to: fast-paced, aggressive, and neck-and-neck.

With St. Louis making a split in the first two games in Dallas, the Stars now need to win on the road to regain home-ice advantage. Injured Stars forwards Tyler Seguin and Patrick Eaves were not expected to travel with the team to the Scottrade Center, though they both skated in Monday’s practice, so Ruff will possibly insert Curtis McKenzie or Brett Ritchie into the lineup. The forwards were recalled from the AHL after the Texas Stars were eliminated from the playoffs over the weekend.

The Blues are 2-2 at home in this year’s playoffs, but more importantly, they were 3-0 at home vs. the Stars in the regular season, winning one in regulation, one in three-on-three overtime and one in a shootout. Despite receiving a puck to the face in Game 2, goalie Brian Elliott will start Game 3. His helmet has been repaired and should be good to go.  RW Ryan Reaves, who played Sunday for the first time since Game 2 of the first round, will also stay in tonight’s lineup.
