Kentucky Derby 2016 post positions
By Jack Crosby
A look at the post positions for the 2016 Kentucky Derby coming up this Saturday
When the month of May rolls around, the first week of the month happens to give us one of the more exciting events in all of sports. The month of May means that the Kentucky Derby is here and it will be taking place this Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Before we get to the race itself on Saturday, however, we must first learn where the amazing 3-year-old thoroughbreds will be in the gate for their post positions. The drawing took place just a short while ago, and you can view the 2016 Kentucky Derby post positions below.
There’s no doubt that we’ve seen throughout the years that a good post position can go a long way. If history has taught us anything, it’s that you want to stay away from the No. 17 spot. Then, of course, you will probably have a lot of eyes on that No. 8 position, which is where American Pharoah started from last year when he began his amazing Triple Crown run.
But in the end, when it comes to the greatest horse race on the planet, anything can happen. The only question now is which post will the winning horse come from this year? We will find that out in a few short days during the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
