Who should be on the move at the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline?

With the first month of the 2016 MLB regular season in the books, contending teams are already thinking about how to upgrade their rosters a bit later in the summer.

Clubs already had a general sense of what their strength and weaknesses were following Spring Training, and the first 20 plus games of the year have only reinforced those ideas. With pennant races beginning to form, a few potential trade partners are already shaping up.

Most of the sellers at the 2016 trade deadline figure to come from the National League. While the Senior Circuit has a number of top World Series contenders, it also features as many as six teams undergoing a full rebuild. Clubs like the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and others will sell off whatever they can buy the August 1 deadline.

There’s much more parity in the American League, meaning the Junior Circuit is going to be full of buyers. Only the Minnesota Twins look to be out of contention so far, and they only have a couple of pieces to sell on a very young team. Expect multiple members of the wide-open AL West and surging teams like the Chicago White Sox to look for upgrades in the summer.

This season’s trade deadline isn’t shaping up to be quite as crazy as the others since the second Wild Card was implemented, but a few sensible deals have already emerged.
