23-year old Malcolm Brogdon is the old man of the 2016 draft class. The Virginia graduate played four seasons of college basketball under head coach Tony Bennett and has been molded into the type of player likely to succeed in the Spurs’ system. Brogdon is a mature, high character prospect who bought into the team dynamic during college. He can shoot it well from outside and is a willing defender on the other end of the floor.

Brogdon knocked down 36.5 percent of his 507 three-point attempts during college, but he has good mechanics on his shot and improved to 39.1 percent his senior year. Brogdon’s free throw percentage (87.6 percent) and his 4.9 three-point attempts per 40 minutes suggest he should maintain a solid outside shot in the NBA. Brogdon also comes from a team that emphasizes playing within a team defensive system, and individually, he was one of the top on-ball defenders in college basketball last season. His 6-10 wingspan gives him the length to pester ball-handlers and challenge shots.

Outside of his age, the thing keeping Brogdon from going higher is his lack of elite athleticism. Brogdon has the skills to be a combo guard in the NBA, but he doesn’t possess exceptional quickness or an eye-popping vertical. Still, Brogdon’s commitment to being a team player and his skill set should make him a solid rotation player at the next level.

To read more about Malcolm Brogdon, <a href=. SG. Virginia.
