Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, Zeb Colter released from WWE

WWE has released Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, and several other superstars

Over the past few days, there have been some interesting developments within WWE that has put the future of some superstars in question. Ryback has been at the forefront of that after he was sent home from RAW and then posted a blog about the issue. However, three other superstars were released on Friday before The Big Guy was wished well on his future endeavors: Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, and Zeb Colter.

On Friday afternoon, WWE posted on their official website that they had released Hornswoggle from his WWE contract and, of course, wished him well on his future endeavors. The same post was then updated to include former WWE superstar and recent NXT talent Alex Riley as someone who was also being released in addition to Hornswoggle. Joining those two with another update of the post was former Real Americans manager Zeb Colter.

It always seems like WWE does what many refer to as “Spring Cleaning” of their roster this time of year and this may very well be it. The fact that three releases were announced within just a few minutes of one another makes it seem like there could be more coming and that these three are just the beginning.

In regards to the initial three releases, it’s not wholly surprising considering how little all three have been used as of late. However, a legend like Zeb Colter (nee Dutch Mantel) and a couple of guys with potential in Hornswoggle and Riley will ultimately find work on the independent scene.

Update

WWE has now also released El Torito. It looks as if there will be more coming.

Cameron is the fifth WWE superstar to be released.

Santino Marella, who has long been unable to compete physically, is the sixth person to be released.

Wade Barrett announced he’s officially done with WWE after not re-signing:

Different way of going about it, same fate.

Damien Sandow is the eighth WWE superstar to be released on this, Black Friday.
