Kentucky Oaks 2016: Live stream, TV schedule, odds and more
Here’s everything that you need to know about the 2016 Kentucky Oaks.
The Kentucky Oaks might be the second most famous horse race in the United States, trailing only the Kentucky Derby. 2016 will mark the 141st anniversary of the first Oaks race in 1875. The race is for three year old thoroughbred horses and many view it as the warmup act for the main event: the Kentucky Derby. Even though the Oaks isn’t as important as the Derby, it’s still a great way to unofficially open the horse racing season.
Churchill Downs will once again host the Oats in 2016. Since 1982, the length of the Oaks has been 1.125 miles. The fastest time to complete to 1.125 mile race was set in 2003 by Bird Town. In 2009, Rachel Alexandra set the record for the largest margin of victory by winning the race by a whopping 20.25 lengths.
There will be 15 horses racing in the Oaks this year. Rachel’s Valentina has the best odds at 7-2. Weep No More and Cathryn are both 9-2 odds. One horse to keep an eye on will be Land Over Sea, a filly who is listed at 5-1 odds. Lewis Bay (8-1 odds), Cathryn Sophia (9-2 odds) and Terra Promessa (10-1 odds) can’t be counted out either.
