Besides fans of the New York Yankees and the Angels faithful in Los Angeles, who wouldn’t want to see one of baseball’s biggest stars in Trout play for the Boston Red Sox? Boston has the No. 6 rated farm system in baseball and leads the American League East at 17-11 through 28 games in the final year of the David Ortiz era in Fenway Park.

A perfect piece to help Big Papi do the unthinkable and win his fourth World Series ring as the Red Sox’s venerable and certain soon-to-be Baseball Hall of Fame designated hitter would be to have Trout playing in the Fenway Park outfield for what could be an unbelievable run through the American League postseason.

Losing Ortiz to retirement after the 2016 will leave a void in Boston that hasn’t been there since he came to the Red Sox from the Minnesota Twins before the 2003 MLB season. Trout would be a bigger splash for the Red Sox than landing left-handed ace starter David Price in 2016 MLB free agency.

Boston has the pieces in the farm system to make Los Angeles do the unthinkable and trade Trout to the Red Sox. The Red Sox have four players on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects: second baseman Yoan Moncada (No. 5), third baseman Rafael Devers (No. 14), outfielder Andrew Benintendi (No. 22), and right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza (No. 35).

Surely, Boston will have to part with at least two of their top four prospects to pry Trout away from the Angels, but with former Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowksi running the Red Sox front office, don’t be surprised if the Red Sox are the ones that pull off this potential blockbuster trade to land Trout by the end of the July 31st MLB trade deadline.
