NFL Rumors: Sam Bradford to retire to escape Eagles?
By Josh Hill
Will Sam Bradford retire so that he can get out from under the Eagles’ thumb?
The biggest drama to come out of the draft this year was in Philadelphia. While Laremy Tunsil tumbled, the aftershock of the Eagles drafting Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick affected Sam Bradford — a guy who thought he was going to be the starter but now has numbered days.
While it’s an open competition for the Eagles starting quarterback spot, everyone believes that Wentz will probably be the guy and Bradford is way not cool with that notion.
According to Eagles beat writer Reuben Frank, there’s a possibility that Sam Bradford retires in order to get away from the Eagles.
The Eagles have said that they’re not going to trade Bradford and they’re certainly not going to release him after sinking a contract extension into him this offseason. That might have been the stupidest thing we saw, as the Eagles traded up to the No. 2 pick to take Carson Wentz to be the quarterback of the future in Philly.
Bradford, who is just six years removed from being a top draft pick himself, doesn’t want to be a placeholder for another player and wants to try and forge his own legacy as a franchise quarterback,. you can’t blame the Eagles for not believing he’ll be that guy, as he hasn’t shown that he ever will be, but they also sank that extension into him which sent mixed signals to everyone.
