The Golden State Warriors will be without Steph Curry in Game 3, but they don’t need him.
According to Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, league MVP and the Warriors starting All-Star point guard Stephen Curry will not play in Game 3 of the Warriors’ Western Conference Semifinals series against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Moda Center in Portland on Friday night.
Curry has had an unreal 2015-16 MVP caliber campaign and should be the unanimous winner of the award in repeat fashion. However, Curry has not had a good stroke of luck in terms of his overall health in the 2016 NBA Playoffs. He hurt himself twice in the Warriors’ first round series against the No. 8 seeded Houston Rockets.
Curry has not played aggravating his knee in Game 4 of the Warriors first round series against Houston. Many expect that Golden State is a deep enough of a team to be able to withstand having Curry out for the entire Western Conference Semifinals against the Trail Blazers. So it’s no surprise that Kerr is siding with precaution in not playing Curry in Game 3 on Friday night.
While Golden State could potentially drop either Game 3 or Game 4 at the Moda Center in Downtown Portland to the Trail Blazers, here are three reasons Golden State is just fine in not playing Curry in Game 3 versus Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum and the rest of the inferior up-start Portland team.
Next: 3. Shaun Livingston is an incredible backup point guard.
