Johnny Manziel looks like he’s thrown away his playing career in the NFL, but could the former Cleveland Browns quarterback have a future as a broadcaster?
Johnny Manziel spent more time mugging for the camera for his mug shot after he was indicted on assault charges stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend that seemed to accelerate his downfall.
The former first round pick of the Cleveland Browns was released earlier this offseason and his behavior after being fired has shown the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback isn’t committed to resuming his playing career at any time soon.
While every NFL team avoids Manziel like that ex you don’t want to see at a party, could the first round bust resurface in the NFL as a broadcaster?
That was the question posed by TMZ to CBS’ Les Moonves who said Manziel would “have to audition like 50 other guys do” and admitted he’s turned off by Manziel’s behavior but didn’t completely shut the door on Manziel the color analyst.
Moonves said, “Anybody gets a second chance.”
Now, that doesn’t sound like a guy who is ready to kick Phil Simms or Dan Fouts out of the broadcast booth in favor of Manziel who probably doesn’t even want a job like this, because he’d have to be a professional and he’s not ready for that.
Manziel won’t be in the broadcast booth and he likely won’t be on an NFL team this year, even for a training camp cameo, but the one place he should be is in a rehab facility.
