Could the next head coach of the New York Knicks be Frank Vogel?
The Indiana Pacers relieved coach Frank Vogel of his duties after six seasons and fresh off of leading them to the playoffs but team president Larry Bird believed a change was in order.
Bird mentioned Vogel tried to talk him out of the decision to no avail. While it may be a bit cold-blooded to reveal that in public, maybe we shouldn’t feel too bad about Vogel because he could have a new job soon.
According to the New York Post, the New York Knicks reached out to Vogel’s agents for a preliminary talk about their head coach position. The initial contact was initiated by Knicks general manager Steve Mills.
This could just be due diligence by Mills because team president Phil Jackson is going to be the decision maker for this job and he reportedly likes interim head coach Kurt Rambis to take over the job on a full-time basis.
The Knicks interviewed former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt and lost out on the chance to hire Golden State Warriors assistant Luke Walton who took the Los Angeles Lakers job after an informal interview.
Vogel has a career record of 250-181 in the regular season and owns a 31-30 record in the postseason.
