Now that he has another impressive win under his belt, will Canelo Alvarez get into the ring against GGG?
Saturday night Canelo Alvarez went into the ring to face off against Amir Khan, someone who was coming up two weight classes. For a time, it looked as if Alvarez might be in a bit of trouble, as Khan was using the speed advantage really well for the opening rounds. But … then the sixth round happened, where Canelo basically knocked Khan into the middle of next week with one right hand.
There it was once again. The power of Canelo was on display on Saturday night, as he laid waste to yet another opponent across from him. So now, with this win, everyone is losing their patience and believes that it is time for him to stand in the ring with someone else who fights like he has a ton of bricks in his gloves, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.
So, will it happen?
Of course, after the fight Canelo was asked by Max Kellerman whether or not the fight is in the cards, and as we all sort of expected, we really didn’t get a definitive answer to the question. But we did get a fired up Canelo Alvarez saying that he doesn’t f*** around.
Canelo invited Triple G into the ring so he could trash to him. He basically said "I don't f--- around." Now we wait to see if that's true.

And yes, for those that weren’t watching, Canelo did invite Golovkin into the ring after the fight, which could actually symbolize the beginning of the build to this mega-fight that we all want to see.
While all of our adrenaline is at an all-time high after watching all of this unfold on Saturday night, we do have to remember that the smoke will eventually clear and we’ll be back to the same problem that we’ve had — that being Canelo’s unwillingness to go defend his belts at 160 pounds, the true middleweight limit.
But when it comes down to it, this fight needs to happen later this year and we should have an answer to that rather soon. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger now, and Canelo now has 15 days to decide whether or not he wants to put his WBC belt on the line. If not, then he will be stripped and the title will be awarded to GGG.
More than likely, GGG will have to shed a few pounds in the end to get this deal done, but even that isn’t a certainty. We’re in for an interesting two weeks, that’s something that we definitively know right now.
