The Cubs suffered a big blow when they lost Kyle Schwarber to a knee injury. Schwarber was penciled in to be a big lefty bat in the middle of the Cubs’ order and their primary left fielder. While the Cubs are loaded with depth and are in a great position to move on without Schwarber, it would be nice to replace that massive bat in the middle.

Fresh off of a 40-home run season, Carlos Gonzalez would certainly help replace that pop. Gonzalez is a powerful hitter who is also an elite-level defender in left field. If the Rockies fall off like expected in the tough National League West, Gonzalez could easily be shopped, and the Cubs would undoubtedly have some interest.

Besides Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward, the Cubs have a right-handed heavy line-up. Sure, they feature some impressive switch hitters, but it would be nice to get some balance in the middle. Gonzalez is an incredibly talented player who would come in and have much more lineup protection than he has ever seen before.

Trading for a guy like Gonzalez would be more of a luxury choice for the Cubs, but they are in a great position to make this happen if they want.
