The Cubs and Athletics have come together on major deals recently, and one could see it happening again before the trade deadline this season. Sonny Gray is an obvious target for the Cubs, and outfielder Josh Reddick makes a ton of sense as well.

Reddick is not the impact power addition to the line-up that a guy like Gonzalez would be, but he is a talented offensive player who would help balance the order with his left-handed bat. He does have some pop in his bat, but Reddick’s offensive value comes from him being a disciplined hitter with fantastic contact skills.

Also, Reddick is a fantastic defensive outfielder who would immediately help the Cubs in that department. Adding him to the mix with Dexter Fowler and Jason Heyward would give the Cubs arguably the best starting defensive outfield in all of baseball.

With his contact expiring after the 2016 season, Reddick should be easily obtainable from Billy Beane and company if the Athletics fall out of contention. That would also be nice for the Cubs, as Reddick could fill a role for the team in 2016, but not hold back Schwarber from winning his left field job back next season.

Reddick is a hard-working and stable player who would improve the Cubs chances to win a championship. If the cost is right, bringing him in is a no-brainer of an acquisition.
