The Miami Heat had their backs against the wall in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup with the Toronto Raptors. Miami was down 2-1 in their best-of-seven series with Toronto and had found out early on Monday that the Heat would be without starting center Hassan Whiteside.

Miami and Toronto battled in what was a low-scoring first half, with Miami holding a 44-35 lead at halftime. The Heat shot better from the field than did Toronto in the first half, despite not sinking a single three-pointer.

Miami shot 47.4% from the field, while holding Toronto to 29.3% in the first half. Dwyane Wade was clearly the best player on the court in the first half with 15 points to lead all scorers.

Toronto was able to put together a solid third quarter to take the lead over Miami thanks to a strong run led by small forward DeMarre Carroll. The Raptors would then take a 62-60 lead into the fourth quarter with the hopes of tame a 3-1 series lead before Game 5 back at home in Air Canada Centre.

Then Toronto got hot and took control of the fourth quarter with great shooting from Terrence Ross, Kyle Lowry, and Corey Joseph, pushing nearly a 10-point lead halfway through the fourth quarter. However, Wade wasn’t going to go down without a fight, carrying Miami down the stretch in this tight ball game.

This game went down to the wire with Wade combatting the overall great team effort by Toronto, tying the game up at 83 with a layup with 12.6 seconds remaining. Toronto would take a timeout to draw up a game-winning shot.

Toronto would in-bound the ball the full length of the court. Joseph would take the last-second, potential game-winning shot, but would miss the attempt and thus send the game to overtime, the third extra period needed in this No. 2 vs. No. 3 playoff series.

Lowry would foul out almost immediately in overtime. From there, Miami would seize the early momentum in overtime with Wade and Joe Johnson leading the charge. Then Wade left a sitter on the rim during one drive right at 59.8 seconds remaining in overtime. Toronto would recover the mid-court tip-off after that crazy play.

Dragic would later seal the game with an explosive and-one layup to make it 92-87 Heat with 22.4 seconds remaining. Wade would steal it and then jam to make it 94-87, winning by that score one possession later.
