The Dallas Stars  and the St. Louis Blues look to win the tied series in Game 7 on Wednesday, May 11.

The Stars got the game in motion on Monday night, gaining a 2-0 advantage within about the first five minutes of regulation. Mattias Janmark opened scoring with a tip-in from Colton Sceviour. Then, 20 seconds later, Vernon Fiddler added another goal for Dallas. This goal was his first in the 2016 postseason.

The Stars would continue to hold off each Blues’ scoring attempt, even during a St. Louis power play opportunity as a result of Jason Demers’ high-sticking penalty. Blues Troy Brouwer would follow up with his own penalty on a cross-check, giving the leading team their own power play advantage. Here, the Stars would yet again excel: Jason Spezza put the puck in the net with 3:11 remaining in the first period, bringing the score up to 3-0 in favor of Dallas. Ultimately Spezza’s goal would be the go-ahead goal for the Stars

Interestingly, in both round one of the playoffs against the Minnesota Wild and in this series, the Stars have come back from a Game 5 loss with three unanswered goals in the first period of Game 6.

St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott was clearly struggling in the net after having a fabulous 12 games in the postseason. With minutes remaining in the first, Jake Allen was called onto the ice to relieve the Blues starter.  Allen had not played since April 3 against the Colorado Avalanche in the regular season.

By the middle of the second period, the Blues managed to produce on their puck possession. With 12:31 remaining in the second period, Alex Steen scored on a wristshot, assisted by Robert Bortuzzo.  Then Patrik Berglund scored on a tip-in from Jori Lehtera and David Backes in the third period, with 11:01 remaining in regulation. They now trailed Dallas by one goal.

However, the Blues were unable to execute: though they held an absurd lead in scoring against the top-scoring team—37-14 to be exact—the Stars continued to put pressure on their hosts. Ultimately time ran out on the Blues, and they lost their series advantage: the series is now tied 3-3 and will go into a dramatic Game 7 finale.

The series returns to Dallas on Wednesday, May 11, when the Stars will look to win the series at home in Game 7. The game will be aired on NBC Sports Network.
