Peyton Manning spent part of the spring working with Ryan Tannehill, who will now be coached by Adam Gase.
In 2016, the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be running a brand new offense under first year head coach Adam Gase. After years of that offense being run with both the Denver Broncos and the Chicago Bears, Tannehill sought help for learning the new system in preparations for the upcoming campaign.
His tutor might have been one of the best he could get: recently retired NFL quarterback legend Peyton Manning. Tannehill told the Miami Herald that he spent time this spring with the future Hall of Famer, who ran the offense for two seasons in Denver:
"“A guy that had his career, the living legend he is, coming off a Super Bowl winning season — it was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he’s done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game. We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love.”"
At the time of the meeting, Tannehill hadn’t been able to meet with Gase thanks to rules regarding contact between players and coaches during a certain dead period.
Peyton Manning still hasn’t decide what he will do now that he is retired from the NFL. Reportedly, he recently told the television networks that cover the league that he would not join any of them as an analyst during the 2016 season, but that still hasn’t been confirmed.
Last season, the Bears offense led by Gase finished 21st in the NFL, just five spots ahead of the Tannehill and the Dolphins. Miami actually finished with a higher passing offense in 2015 than the Bears (19th as opposed to 23rd).
