White Sox Trade Rumors: 5 early targets
Adding another left-handed pitcher to the starting rotation may not be ideal, but Rich Hill is going to be one of the most solid starting pitchers available at the deadline this off season who can be traded for at a reasonable cost.
Hill was a solid left-handed starter earlier in his career with the Chicago Cubs, but quickly fell off the map. Hill bounced around for a bit as a reliever, having some success with the Boston Red Sox in 2012 and New York Yankees in 2014. Hill ended up back in Boston late last season when the Red Sox gave him another chance to start.
Hill was fantastic in four starts with Boston and parlayed that in to a free agent contract with Billy Beane and Oakland. Hill has been a solid force for the Athletics in their rotation, 2.39 ERA and 46 strikeouts (16 walks) in seven starts. Hill is a completely rejuvenated pitcher showcasing a knockout curveball that has opposing hitters fooled.
The A’s have found lightning in a bottle in Hill, but it is not like they are committed long-term to the 36-year-old starter. If they fall out of the race, Beane will be quick to sell Hill off for any kind of future return, and the White Sox would be an ideal landing spot.
Chicago is looking for stability at their fifth starter spot and Rich Hill would be a fantastic player to bring in to the mix.
