Bayern Munich have announced that they have reached agreements to sign both Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches.
Bayern Munich have announced on their official website that they have signed center back Mats Hummels from rival Borussia Dortmund and talented Portuguese youngster Renato Sanches from SL Benfica.
The news of Hummels joining has been predicted for almost a year now. The signing of 18-year-old Sanches can be seen as a shock considering many top clubs in Europe were fighting for his signature.
The club announced on Tuesday that Sanches was flown to Munich on Monday and completed his pre-medical before officially signing a five-year-deal that will see the youngster in Bayern colors until June 30, 2021. Bayern also announced they spent €35 million ($39 million USD) on Sanches.
Prior to jumping into the Benfica first team, Sanches spent two seasons with Benfica II, appearing in 34 matches and starting 21 times. He totalled three goals in two years for the second team before joining the first team this past season. Sanches made 24 appearances for his local club, scoring twice.
“Renato is dynamic, a good tackler and a technically skilled midfielder who’ll add even more strength to our team,” said Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Sanches joins an already tough midfield with the likes of Douglas Costa, Arturo Vidal, Mario Gotze, Xabi Alonso, Thiago Alcantara, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, to say the least.

As for Hummels, the club has not said how much it cost to bring Hummels to his former youth team, but they did announce that he signed a five-year-deal until June 30, 2021.
Hummels grew up in Munich and spent five years with the first and second teams, before joining Dortmund in 2007. He only made one appearance for the first team in 2006. He has since gone on to win a World Cup with Germany in 2014 and appear in a Champions League Final in 2013 when Dortmund took on Bayern at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
