NHL Rumors: Bruins ‘will definitely’ be on Jimmy Vesey’s list
Jimmy Vesey can’t talk to NHL teams until August 15 but he will certainly be considering the Bruins.
Jimmy Vesey made a very bold decision when he elected to hit free agency rather than sign with the Nashville Predators, who drafted him in the 2012 NHL Draft. It’s a bold decision that he had every right to make since teams only have control of college players for four years after they are drafted unless they sign the player to an entry-level contract. Whether or not Vesey’s bold decision will pay off remains to be seen. In a recent interview, Vesey gave a hint as to what might have inspired him to turn down the opportunity to play for the Predators, a very talented team: he would love to play for the Boston Bruins.
“I think the Bruins will definitely be on my list of teams,” said Vesey, via the Boston Herald. “I’m excited about [free agency] and I can’t wait to see where I’m going to end up.”
Vesey is from the Boston area and grew up rooting for the Bruins. That childhood dream likely plays a huge role in his admitted interest. Every kid who plays sports as a kid dreams of playing for their hometown team. Vesey decided to take a huge gamble to potentially have the opportunity to live out that dream. The Bruins would love to have him too, but Vesey will also likely want to go somewhere that can promise him a top-six forward spot. Can Boston provide that for him? Would Vesey be willing to sacrifice that top six forward spot to play for the team he dreamed of playing for as a kid?
