The Ducks have received permission to interview former Wild head coach Mike Yeo for their vacant head coach position.

After firing Bruce Boudreau, the Anaheim Ducks have taken their time to narrow their list of potential candidates down to a set few for the interview process. One of the candidates that they will interview is former Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo. The Wild have given the Ducks permission to speak with, and likely interview, their former head coach. Anaheim needs an experienced head coach since they are still all-in for contending for a Stanley Cup.

Yeo could be a solid hire by the Ducks. He’s likely the best candidate remaining after Boudreau, Guy Boucher, and Marc Crawford have all been hired. Yeo was hired by the Wild during the summer of 2011. He led the Wild to the playoffs in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Under Yeo, the Wild had a 55.9 percent point percentage.

Yeo is known as a defensive-minded head coach. He would be taking over a Ducks team that could have a complicated blue line situation next season due to Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm each being restricted free agents. Both will likely be seeking long-term deals which could complicate things and force the Ducks to trade one of them. The Ducks also have a nice group of forwards led by wing Corey Perry centers Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, and Rickard Rakell.
