One shall not attempt to stop Russell Westbrook on the fast break. It’s damn near impossible.
When Russ gets a full head of steam headed down court, it is terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. You aren’t quite sure if he’s going to hurt himself or his opponents or both.
Westbrook is easily the fastest player in the league, and he pairs that with explosive athleticism and fair body control to get the the basket at will.
In Game 5 against the San Antonio Spurs, Russy went coast-to-coast in a matter of seconds. He skies to snatch the defensive rebound from David West and takes off. Patty Mills has to sprint at full speed just to keep up with Westbrook but makes the fatal mistake of trying to back pedal. Russ takes one dribble with his left hand into the paint and crosses over as Mills falls on his back. Westbrook finishes an easy layup over Danny Green’s outstretched hand.
