Shanghai Disneyland’s Tron ride is totally epic

Footage of the new Tron Light Cycle Power Run Ride at Shanghai Disneyland has hit the internet, and it is amazing.

Tron is back at Disney Parks, and it’s back in a huge way.  Longtime Disney fans might recall the Tron scenes on the now-defunct PeopleMover ride at Disneyland. With the success of the recent Tron reboot, Disney Imagineers decided that a Tron-themed roller coaster and sort of dark ride were a perfect fit for the newest Disney Park: Shanghai Disneyland. Enter the Tron Light Cycle Power Run ride.

While the new park doesn’t open until June 16, footage of the park has been showing up all over the internet from people who have been on it. A full POV video of the Tron ride has surfaced, and it is every bit as epic as you’d expect.

Guests board individual light cycles that are hooked together to form a roller coaster car that travels through the darkness, out into the open air, and back into the darkness.  The best part of this trip through the Grid is that it provides a stunning view of Shanghai’s Tomorrowland.

There are currently no plans to bring the Tron Light Cycle Power Run to the American theme parks, but it’s always a possibility, especially given that Disneyland hasn’t removed the People<over track (that also housed the short-lived Rocket Rods ride).  Disney will be watching Shanghai’s reception (and profit margins) very closely over the next few months.  If all goes well, the American theme parks may see Tron in the future.
