Former New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott is going all in on the team’s quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, over his current contract dispute.
Last season, the New York Jets nearly made it to the playoffs thanks in part to the play at quarterback by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Now, the signal caller wants to be paid as one of the top quarterbacks in the league and the team is saying thanks, but no thanks.
It has led to a standoff between both sides that could see the Jets have to turn the keys of the offense over to one of Fitzpatrick’s backups from last season (Geno Smith, for example). while receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker wants Fitzpatrick back with the team, one former Jets star is going all in on the quarterback.
Bart Scott, in a recent interview with NFL Radio on Sirius XM, didn’t hold back in saying that Fitzpatrick already got his big contract once and doesn’t deserve another:
"“Fitz don’t have a leg to stand on, man. He is who he is… On another 20 teams in the league, he would be a backup. The only teams that he would start for are the teams that have bad quarterback situations. He’s a bridge guy, a glue guy.All these people are tripping about money and respect. Man, come on, man. It’s a lot of people out there that are underpaid and there are a lot of people that are overpaid. You had your opportunity when you had your leverage in Buffalo. You got paid, you took advantage of it. You don’t get to cash in twice, bro.”"
If the team does decide to move on from Fitzpatrick (which it’s looking more and more like what will take place), the options include Smith and Bryce Petty (who the team drafted last year) or Christian Hackenberg, who was drafted this year after playing for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
