DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 11

There are seven games in the big tournament tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Taijuan Walker has not faced off against the Rays yet in his career, and with his last start being cut short, he carried a bit of a risk anyway. Marcus Stroman has never faced the Giants, so there are no past stat indicators in play there either. The only Cub that Colin Rea has faced is Jason Heyward (who singled and walked).

Best Bets:

Chris Archer ($10,100): Archer has struggled a bit this year, but his career numbers against Seattle are enticing. Seattle is hitting just .204 off of Archer in 93 at bats with only six RBI and a whopping 32 strikeouts. If you are willing to gamble on Archer, this would be the day to do it.

Kyle Hendricks ($9,000): The current Padres squad is just 4-46 (.087) with 11 strikeouts against Hendricks. Matt Kemp did manage a two run homer off of him in ten at bats, but that is about it. His strikeout potential is slightly lower, but his price is far below the big three this afternoon, and past stats say he is just as good of a bet, if not better.

Honorable Mention:

Danny Salazar ($11,900): The reason that Salazar is on a lower tier is because of a smaller sample size, and because of the price difference between him and the two above him. I expect Salazar to have a good day because the Astros are only hitting .200 against him in 25 at bats with two RBI and eight strikeouts. I’m just not sold on him being $2,000 better than Archer or $3,000 better than Hendricks.

Dark Horse:

Tyler Wilson ($4,800): Yes, this is a risk, but the Twins are going with Phil Hughes. Wilson faced the Twins back on April 4th. He came in after a rain delay, and pitched well, allowing only two hits in three innings of relief while striking out three. If you want to roll the dice, this could pay off nicely for you!

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Mat Latos has done fairly well against the Rangers so far in his career, with two of the four guys that have hit home run off of him (Josh Hamilton and Shin-Soo Choo) on the disabled list. There are still others you may want to stack here though. Elvis Andrus ($3,500) is 3-7 with a RBI. Nomar Mazara ($3,400) has only faced Latos twice, but his one hit was a solo home run. Rougned Odor ($4,700) is a high price today because he is 2-4 with a solo homer off of Latos as well.

Yes, you should stack Orioles against Phil Hughes. You probably don’t need me to tell you that, but you may need to know whom to stack. Chris Davis ($4,400) is 8-30(.267) with two walks, a double, and a solo homer off Hughes. Nolan Reimold ($2,900) is 3-8 with two walks, a double, and a solo homer. Adam Jones ($3,600), despite the terrible average (.176 in 51 at bats) has three homers and eight RBI against Hughes. Don’t sleep on Manny Machado ($5,000). Machado is 10-19(.526) with a walk, two homers, and three RBI against Hughes.

Stacking Indians against Doug Fister looks like a good idea. It looks like Michael Brantley will sit, but there are still other options. Marlon Byrd ($3,300) is 6-15(.400) with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI off Fister. Juan Uribe ($2,600) is 2-6, but both hits are home runs and he has driven in three. Carlos Santana ($3,800) is only 5-30(.167), but he has two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Fister.

The Rockies have hit well against Robbie Ray. Charlie Blackmon ($4,500) has six singles and a triple in just 11 at bats against Ray. Carlos Gonzalez ($4,000) is 2-6 with a homer and two RBI. Trevor Story ($5,000) is perfect so far with a walk, a single, a homer, and two RBI against Ray. Nolan Arenado ($5,300) is just 1-10 against Ray, but the hit is a two run homer.

This could be another time to utilize Troy Tulowitzki at the bargain price of $2,900. He is 11-29(.379) with three walks, two doubles, two homers, and five RBI off of Madison Bumgarner. Josh Donaldson ($4,500) has only one hit off of Bumgarner in six at bats, but that hit was a two run home run.

Melky Cabrera ($3,600) is 6-17(.353) with two walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Cole Hamels. Todd Frazier ($4,400) has four RBI on four hits off Hamels.

It’s a brief, but good, history for the Diamondbacks against Chad Bettis. Brandon Drury ($3,600) went 2-3 with a solo homer in his only game against Bettis. Paul Goldschmidt ($5,200) is 4-12 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. Jean Segura ($4,600) is 2-5 with a solo shot as well.
