DraftKings Late MLB Picks For May 11

There are 14 games in the big tournament today, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. The Cubs and Nationals have an early game at Wrigley, but the rest of the teams are up for grabs! Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Kenta Maeda is making his first appearance against the Mets, so there will be no Mets on the list. Jaime Garcia has been around the block some, but he has still never faced the Angels. Jerad Eickhoff has a limited history against the Braves, but they are struggling for a reason. He may be worth it, we just don’t have the stats to back it up. Eric Surkamp has only faced the Red Sox a combined five times, so those stats don’t help.

Best Bets:

Noah Syndergaard ($10,500): Okay….the sample size is small, but the Dodgers are a pathetic 2-20(.100) against Syndergaard so far. They have only struck out three times, but that is a special kind of dominance that might just make him worth this lofty price tonight.

Drew Pomeranz ($9,400): It’s a small sample size, but the Cubs are only hitting .188 off of Pomeranz in 16 at bats with two RBI and seven strikeouts. There is risk involved considering the Cubs have one of the better offenses in baseball, but the stats support rolling with Pomeranz, who is pretty hot in his own right. He has only had one bad outing this year.

Honorable Mention:

Wei-Yin Chen ($7,800): Chen hasn’t given up less than two runs in any of his starts this year, so his upside is limited. Still, this is the Brewers. Some AAA teams have a more potent offense. Milwaukee is hitting only .210 off of Chen in 62 at bats with a homer, five RBI, and 17 strikeouts. Most of that damage was done by one player (more on that later).

Dark Horses:

Yordano Ventura ($7,300): While common sense would tell you to let Yordano alone against the Yankees – he has given up ten runs in his last two starts – the stats say otherwise. The Yankees are hitting just .171 off of Ventura in 35 at bats with two solo homers (by Dustin Ackley and Aaron Hicks). The bad news? He only has six punchouts. He carries some risk here, but he could wind up getting around 18-20 DraftKings points.

Jhoulys Chacin ($6,200): Chacin got bludgeoned by the Mets his last time out, but his history against the Phillies is very good. The Phils are hitting only .219 against him in 32 at bats with a homer and four RBI (all by Ryan Howard) and five strikeouts. He may be worth taking a shot with.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Do you trust Billy Butler ($3,300) anymore? I’m not sure I do either, but he is 19-52(.365) with a walk, five doubles, a homer, and ten RBI off of Rick Porcello. Another veteran, Coco Crisp ($3,200) is 6-23(.261) with a walk, a double, and a RBI. Josh Reddick ($3,800) is 3-8 with four walks and a solo home run off Porcello.

You may want to stack some Marlins against Chase Anderson. The Fish are hitting .320 against him in 75 at bats. Giancarlo Stanton is pricey at $5,100, but he is 4-11 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI so far against Anderson. Derek Dietrich ($3,400), who has claimed a starting role in the wake of Dee Gordon‘s suspension, has a two run homer off of Anderson in two at bats. Adeiny Hechavarria ($2,800) has also taken Anderson deep, and could be a cheap source of points.

Jarrod Salatalamacchia ($2,700) has hit Max Scherzer fairly well in his career. Well enough to consider using him at that price. Saltalamacchia is 6-15(.400) with a homer and three RBI off of Scherzer.

Brandon Phillips ($4,100) is 5-11 with a double, a triple, a home run, and three RBI off of Pittsburgh starter Juan Nicasio.

Melvin Upton, Jr. ($2,900) may be worth a look against John Lackey. Upton is only 7-33(.212) off Lackey, but he has hit two homers and driven in five runs.

Adrian Gonzalez ($3,000): could be a steal tonight. He is 1-3 with a solo homer off of Noah Syndergaard in his career. At this price, he is worth a flier to see if lightning can strike twice.

Daniel Murphy ($4,500) is sure glad to see Jordan Zimmerman again. Murphy is 20-61(.328) with a walk, five doubles, four homers, and nine RBI against him from his days in the NL East.

Chris Carter ($3,800) is inly 4-18(.222) off of Wei-Yin Chen, but he has two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI. He may be worth a look against the veteran lefty.
