Country music star Garth Brooks thinks the Arkansas Razorbacks would fit nicely in the Big 12.
With just 10 teams since the mass exodus of Nebraska to the Big Ten, Colorado to the Pac-12 and Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC, supporters of the Big 12 have hoped for a few additions to make the conference a serious power again.
Former Oklahoma State track star and country music icon Garth Brooks thinks one team would make a perfect fit in the Big 12: Arkansas.
The Arkansas Razorbacks would make sense. They haven’t won a conference title since 1989 nor a division title since 2006. Bret Bielema has taken over the program, hoping for bigger and better things, but that may not happen in the SEC.
Alabama is still the cream of the crop in the SEC and other programs such as Florida, Georgia, LSU and Auburn will make it very difficult to break the two-plus decade-long drought of a conference title.
Brooks had this to say about Arkansas on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, according to ArkansasOnline.com:
"“I was always pulling for Arkansas,” Brooks told Chris Childers, host of the show Full Ride on SiriusXM. “I’d love to have seen them come in because they’re right next door. Some of the greatest football games of old when I was a kid was the University of Oklahoma and Arkansas, so I wanted to see them come in.”"
There would be a nice rivalry in the Big 12 between Arkansas and Texas or even Arkansas and Oklahoma or Oklahoma State if they were to be added. Developing new rivalries would be welcomed, too, but that would likely mean adding a 12th program as well.
Bielema has struggled a bit under the high expectations over his last couple of seasons, going 3-9 in 2013, 7-6 in 2014 and 8-5 in 2015. He’s improving the program little-by-little, but it would be in the school’s best interest to leave the SEC.
The ground-and-pound nature of Arkansas would fit the Big 12 like a glove and you could even see the Razorbacks winning the conference, or at least making the run for a Big 12 title more interesting — this might even entice the conference to add a championship game.
Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long isn’t too keen on the idea and had some fun using some of the music stars songs in the process to get his point across they’re happy in the SEC.
Hey @Garthbrooks hear u want @ArkRazorbacks in Big 12. "I’ve Got a Good Thing Going" in @SEC. Those are just "Unanswered Prayers" :-)

Does Garth Brooks have a point or do you think this is just his personal desire and he should stick to country music? Either way, the Razorbacks would be an interesting addition to the Big 12 and it’s hard to argue the contrary.
