Juventus agree to extensions with two club legends
Juventus have agreed to extensions with two key parts of their strong backline.
Serie A giants Juventus have agreed to extensions with keeper Gianluigi Buffon and center back Andrea Barzaglia on Wednesday, that will see the two with the club until June 30, 2018.
The two club legends helped Juventus secure a fifth straight Serie A title, after starting the season near the bottom of the table. The success the club has had in recent years can be tied to what Buffon and his defense have done.
The ageless wonder Buffon became the first goalie in Serie A history to not concede a goal in 974 minutes, which is a record 10 straight matches. The 38-year-old said that now he wants to help the ‘bianconeri’ win a Champions League title after coming so close last summer against Barcelona and in 2003 against rival AC Milan.
“The goals I’ve set for myself here have always been related to the team as a whole and to work on certain things individually too,” said Buffon.
The club’s captain also mentioned he has set sights on the club winning a record sixth straight league title and hopes to have won 10 Scudetto titles in 16 seasons with the club.
Barzagli, 35, has been a part of Juventus’s “BBC” connection of himself, Leonardo Bonucci and Georgrio Chiellini. The three have seen the club allow the second lowest shots per game this season and have were able to help guide the club to a recent Champions League quarter-final berth against Bayern Munich, in which they lost.
With both Buffon and Barzagli locked up for a couple more years, the team can now focus on Buffon’s goal and become a Champions League regulars and win their first European title.
