DraftKings MLB Picks For May 12

There are eight games tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Vince Velasquez is making his first of what will be many starts against the Braves. He could be good to use, but there are no stats to back it up. His counterpart, Aaron Blair, has never faced the Phillies either.

Best Bets:

Clayton Kershaw ($13,300): Yes, that is an awful lot to spend on a pitcher, but Kershaw has four straight double digit strikeout games, and he is facing a Mets team that he has absolutely owned. The current Mets are hitting a miserable .138 off of him in 80 at bats with just one extra base hit (a David Wright double), four RBI, and 24 strikeouts. This has all the makings of another big day for Kershaw.

David Price ($11,100): Price has been miserable this year, posting a 6.75 ERA thus far. Still, it’s hard to ignore his career numbers against the Astros. The current Astros team is hitting just .158 off of Price in 76 at bats with two homers, four RBI, and 28 strikeouts. He has an even higher strikeout potential than Kershaw today, but he is also more likely to give runs.

Honorable Mention:

Jimmy Nelson ($9,200): The Padres are only hitting .226 off of Nelson in 31 at bats with just one RBI. He does only have five strikeouts, which limits his upside, but he could still put up good numbers for the price tonight.

Johnny Cueto ($10,400): Cueto can still be dominant, as shown in his last start. Arizona is only hitting .219 off of him in 105 at bats with two homers and eight RBI, however, the 21 strikeouts is a little lower than you would hope for. Especially with his price in five figures. That keeps him out of the top tier, but just barely.

Dark Horses:

Adam Wainwright ($7,200): We are living in a different world when Wainwright is considered a dark horse, but his stats have not been good so far this year. His career stats against the Angels are though. The Halos are hitting only .167 off of him in 66 at bats with a homer, five RBI, and 16 strikeouts. He is worth a look against Weaver and the Angels.

Bartolo Colon ($7,900) has actually done fairly well against the Dodgers. They are hitting only .235 off of him in 136 at bats with three homers and 11 RBI to go with 28 strikeouts. The chances of Colon getting out with a win are slim, but he could put up decent enough stats for his price.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The winning lineup could likely have a stack of Tigers against Ubaldo Jimenez. They have hit ten home runs off of him in 168 at bats. Miguel Cabrera ($5,100) is 15-43(.349) with nine walks, four doubles, a homer, and eight RBI against Ubaldo. Jose Iglesias ($3,200) is 3-4 with a triple, a home run, and four RBI. Victor Martinez ($4,400) is 9-29(.310) with a walk, a double, four home runs, and 11 driven in. Justin Upton ($4,700) is 7-25(.280) with three walks, two doubles, a triple, two homers, and eight RBI off of Jimenez. Stack some Tigers to win tonight!

Before you say stacking against Zach Greinke is a bad idea, consider his struggles this year. Then consider how familiar the Giants are with him. Particularly these guys. Brandon Crawford ($3,700) is only 5-22(.227), but he has walked twice, doubled, homered, and driven in two. Buster Posey ($4,000) is 8-29(.276) with three walks and two RBI. Trevor Brown ($3,100), who will likely start at catcher if Brandon Belt sits, is 1-2 with a two run double. Denard Span ($3,800) is 11-36(.306) with two walks, two doubles, a triple, and four RBI. If you want to roll the dice a little, Hunter Pence ($4,400) is only 4-25(.160) but he has a double, two homers, and three RBI off of Greinke.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,500) is 5-12 with a double, a homer, and four RBI off of Johnny Cueto. You can also consider Yasmany Tomas, who could be a bargain at $3,000. He has a solo homer in three career at bats against Cueto.

Stacking with Ian Kennedy‘s former team against him looks like a good idea. The Yankees are hitting .280 against Kennedy in 107 at bats with five homers and 16 RBI. Brian McCann ($3,500) is 5-16(.313) with two walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI against Kennedy. Chase Headley ($2,800) is 7-25(.280) with five walks, a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI. Carlos Beltran ($3,400) loves the Royals, and Ian Kennedy is no exception. Beltran is 6-23(.261) with three walks, a double, a triple, two homers, and six RBI against Kennedy.

Chris Young ($3,200) could be a nice bargain today. He is 6-20(.300) with a walk, two doubles, a triple, and two RBI against Dallas Keuchel.

Aaron Hill ($3,300) is 12-42(.286) with five walks, three doubles, four homers, and six RBI off of James Shields. He may be the best hitter bet of the day!

Mark Trumbo ($4,600) is 5-10 with a walk and a solo home run against Mike Pelfrey. Jonathan Schoop ($4,000) is 2-3 with three RBI. Adam Jones ($4,400) is 6-12 with a RBI against Pelfrey in his career.

Adrian Gonzalez ($4,000) is 11-24(.458) with two doubles, two homers, and three RBI off of Bartolo Colon. From the for what its worth department, Chase Utley ($3,700) is 7-17(.412) off of Colon with two doubles and two RBI.
