NFL highlights, classic games to be posted on YouTube

NFL announces new, expanded deal with YouTube.

Through a press release published on Thursday, the NFL announced that it has renewed and broadened its partnership with YouTube and will now post full games on the popular video service for the first time. After reluctantly embracing the Internet, the NFL now seems ready to evolve and increase its overall accessibility on various digital platforms.

After successfully launching its YouTube channel last year, the NFL now plans to grow its presence in several ways. First, before the 2016 season begins, the league will post the full television broadcasts of each team’s three most memorable games throughout history. Second, and possibly the most exciting aspect of this new partnership, the NFL is planning to post highlights to their channel while games are still in progress.

Lastly, YouTube and Google, which now owns the video service, has agreed to prominently display NFL-related content on both of their platforms, which will drastically increase the visibility of the league on the Internet.

For all the hate and backlash he receives, Commissioner Roger Goodell understands how fans want to consume his product. People want to watch their favorite team on their television and check the highlights from around the league on their phone, tablet, or computer.

In addition to the new YouTube deal, the NFL also announced a partnership with Twitter in which the social media website will simulcast Thursday Night Football along with the various broadcast networks.

While these two developments certainly benefit all fans of football, the NFL could be further damaging the appeal of physically attending games. The “shield” may be too big to fail, but over-expansion should always be a concern for any business.
